Climate
In Portugal's interior, surrounded by Serra da Estrela mountains. Hot summers, cold winters. Large day–night temperature differences allow slow grape ripening and increase aromatic intensity.
Soil Structure
Granite-based, sandy and mineral. Vines are low-yielding but produce quality grapes.
Local Grapes
Red grape varieties: Touriga Nacional (the region's icon), Jaen (Mencía), Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz.
White grape varieties: Encruzado (most prestigious white grape), Bical, Malvasia Fina.
Wines Produced
Balanced, aromatic red wines. White wines with long aging potential. The region's wines are generally known as harmonious and complex.
